The Yellow Boat — Côte d'Azur, French Riviera

This is France. Unmistakably, dreamily, absolutely France.

The limestone battlements crowning the clifftop, the particular shade of that Mediterranean blue, the lush subtropical canopy pressing against ancient stone walls — this is the Côte d'Azur in its most quietly magnificent form. Perhaps Èze. Perhaps Cap Ferrat. Perhaps somewhere that only exists this perfectly in memory and paint.

Fleming frames the scene from the water — the most honest vantage point, the one that lets the land reveal itself completely. A medieval fortress rises above the treeline with the calm authority of something that has watched centuries of boats pass beneath it and found them all, without exception, charming. The vegetation is dense and theatrical — deep forest green, near-black in the shadows, lit with bursts of lighter lime where the afternoon sun finds a gap in the canopy.

And then — the yellow boat.

Small, sun-bright, gloriously alive against all that deep Mediterranean blue, it cuts a white wake across the lower third of the composition with the cheerful confidence of someone who has absolutely nowhere more important to be. One figure, perhaps two, aboard — anonymous, unhurried, blessed.

The water is painted with remarkable depth. Layers of cerulean, teal, and midnight blue shift beneath the surface, calm and vast and unhurried. The sky above is a clear, uncomplicated blue — the kind that makes you feel, even standing in a gallery, that you could simply step into it.

This is a painting about scale and joy — the ancient fortress above, the little yellow boat below, and the vast, generous sea holding them both without preference or judgment.

Palette: Cerulean blue · Midnight teal · Forest green · Limestone ivory · Sunshine yellow · White wake Mood: Sun-drenched wandering · Timeless Riviera elegance · Joyful insignificance

"Somewhere on the Côte d'Azur, a yellow boat is still out there. It always will be." — VivRo

Collector's Note: The Yellow Boat is a statement piece that brings the soul of the French Riviera into any interior — a living room, a hallway, a reading room facing the sea. It anchors a gallery wall beautifully alongside Fleming's other coastal and landscape works, and stands with equal confidence entirely on its own.
